Since moving to Bettendorf for my High School years I have learned more than I could imagine and for that, I will be grateful for forever. I have learned more about myself, more in school, and most importantly I have learned from my mistakes including how to fix them to prevent myself from ever making them again. Everyone makes mistakes and may possibly get in trouble for these. I will never forget Bettendorf High School nor February 28th, 2018. February 28th was a day that has changed how I think about my best friends, and also made think about everyone a lot more than I did before.…
As I walked through the front doors of Allentown Central Catholic High School, I felt a sudden rush of panic. Everything I had once seen and had once been familiar with in middle school quickly vanished into thin air. I was terrified, not because I thought I was going to get lost, but because I knew that every little quiz I took, every little paper I wrote, and every exam I labored over would now count toward my ultimate goal of getting into a prestigious university. I wasn’t scared of new faces, but rather new beginnings and experiences.…
Sitting down tapping the brown tables and biting my fingernails At Charles Sumner Elementary School. Not fitting in and being the only dark skinned dominican in my class felt like I was underwater with no oxygen tank. I remember when one of my classmates was looking at me and laughing with his friends. It felt like i had butterflies in my stomach, as he keep looking at me i felt the need to look him and say what. A chubby, curly hair mean looking boy with the same age as me, looked at me and then calls me names.…
Last Year, Homestead High School, sometime around noon. I was faced with a challenge that left me questioning myself and what write. Let's start from the beginning; it was the time that Stanford blood drive would come to Homestead and collect blood. I as always wanted to escape math class and do something good, but mostly not do math. I proceeded to go and sign up; I was given a computer asking about my personal information, going through the questions I stopped.…
Friday, May 31, 2017, was the final day of school. Warren, Ohio, USA is where I attended Howland High School. The last school bell of the day rang, joy and excitement rushed throughout my body. I was as excited as a firecracker as I thought about the adventures I could have over the summer. I was impatient as time crept by.…
“Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now”(Bob Dylan). When you are younger in life, you tend to believe you are better than you are. It is not until you are older that you can look back and realize there was much yet to learn.…
A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly.” Josh exclaimed. “You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” I smiled as my brother Josh read from my favorite Roald Dahl book “The Twits”. Reading me bedtime stories was not something that my twelve-year-old brother was readily admitting to his friends.…
My first few weeks of placement at Spring Ridge Middle School had been eventful. While working there, I have been a literacy mentor, which means I grade papers and have conferences with the students about their writing. During my visits I am also tasked with other miscellaneous tasks like putting up bulletin boards or running errands for the teacher. The children I work with are an honors English class, in the seventh grade. However, I have worked with other classes my teacher works with in short bursts.…
Leaders are not born but made is a motto that I like to live my life by. Every day of our lives we are given opportunities to rise up and better ourselves through leading others. A way I have been taught to be a leader this year is through a program at my school Edmond Memorial called Bulldog Mentors. Any junior or senior may sign up and donate their free time to mentor a group of freshmen at our school; we are given lessons most Fridays and we teach the underclassman instructions to help lessen their burdens for the rest of their high school years.…
I refuse to consider myself a good leader. A leader, no matter the experience, can always become better. There are many projects that I have participated in that focus on strengthening leadership abilities, and many roles I have held that have allowed me to grow as a leader. Over the past summer I was accepted into the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar program (HOBY). This intensive three day program focused on further developing the leadership skills of student participants.…
My experience at Northview High School has prepared me in many ways to take the next step towards my future. Here at Northview I have learned many lessons, both good and bad. From being a student at this school, I have learned a lot of things that I should no longer do, and refraining from these things should give me a more successful future in college. Along the way, I have also learned plenty of lessons that have helped me better myself as a person and also as a student. One thing I have learned at Northview is that I should never stop caring about my grades or turning my homework in.…
mother and I to a place with these people who call themselves the Supremacy. Dad apparently owed them money and he never had that job as a security guard, he joined them and together they built up a cult. They loaned dad money to help to support us, but that was two years ago and then dad when crazy and traded mom and I. We them escaped and……. “And what?…
In the late nineties, I expelled from Mackenzie High School in my senior year. I was a lost soul walking through the streets of Detroit acting giddy, and very ignorant. I went astray to all my goals as the streets had my attention, therefore I was prepared to do any and everything I recognized was wrong. I was discontented and being around an irksome cluster of friends that was nothing but trouble. I would soon find discernment and maturity within myself and create a better way.…
The car we saw earlier that night had come back and driven straight where we were sitting. All I could think about was how they could 've known that we were in the bleachers. The last time we had seen them was in the parking lot. Were they watching us? While they were driving towards us, they turned on their brights; we ducked down to where the car couldn 't spot us.…
My educational experience was fun, entertaining, and adventurous. My elementary and secondary school that I went to were in a small town. One on one help was always easy to get since my class contained about 25 children in the classroom and there was always an aide in the room. My elementary and secondary school did well in assisting anyone with homework or anything overall. Both the teachers and staff knew and cared about each one of the students that were enrolled in school.…
