Personal Narrative: My Value Of Religion

Decent Essays
I am driven religiously; my religion is my moral compass that directs the course of my life. For example, stealing is considered a sin therefore I will not commit the act because it infringes on my morality. I believe religion should be used to make yourself more ethical. I am proud to call myself a Shia Muslim.

Kali, Just took a look at your paper, everything looked fine. Very well written, nothing grammatically stood out to me. Everything flowed well, and the construction seemed well thought out. The only thing I would recommend is, look over the paper and make sure that the points you are making line up with the way they are said. That meaning if you are talking about Christianity, make sure you put the emphasis on what it has done for you, not what you can do for the faith.…

At least 80% of the world’s population affiliates with a certain religion. Some societal values have roots in religion, a moral reservoir, therefore religion matters for those who believe so. I believe in Christianity because my family does. It comes as natural; as if it was required for me to know and understand religion and how everything turns out the way they do at a very young age. I went to a Christian school from kinder to high school, I was not forced neither asked if I even want to be in that school.…

For 9 months now I've come to terms with my own new atheism; the world feels brand new. I have a thousand rose-colored memories of my childhood church, but all nostalgic aesthetics aside, I can't help but acknowledge the negativity I experienced as a Christian. Suppression of my curiosity and my passion for humanism was routine, as my church seemed to consistently devalue and demonize human nature. When I was younger, I'd ask God to grant me everything I felt I couldn't attain myself: intelligence, financial comfort, consistent sobriety for my mother- essentially freedom from all difficulty. I felt I had no power over these things in my life and that I needed God to fix them up for me.…

I laid there in bed at nearly 3 o’clock in the morning, but falling asleep was the last thing on my mind. My heart was beating like a jackhammer and I had this feeling inside of me that I had never felt before. It felt as though my old self had died and been replaced by someone else. My entire perspective on life was thrown out the window and replaced with something new. I laid there silently, knowing that what I just witnessed would change my life forever.…

Finding My Own Beliefs When raising their children, parents tend to force feed them with the beliefs they know and grew up on, even if their parents forced it upon them as well. My mother’s mother was heavily religious and brought my mother to church every Sunday, sometimes on weekdays. For her birthdays, she would never get parties, just more church and a cake if she was lucky. As a result, I too was born into a religiously strict household. When Sunday rolled around there was no arguing with my mother.…

An individuals’ conception of god is typically shaped by their familial structure and, I believe, people tend to not question the religion they are raised in. Usually, this does not happen until they hit puberty and start to denounce their parents’ value. No one is born with knowledge about a certain moral code, so those concepts are inherited through the teachings of a family. One is not born knowing that it is bad to hit someone just like how you are not born knowing a language. It seems to mostly be based on a faith or their environment.…

Having religion is very common throughout the ages, and it still diffuse these days. but do we ask our self why is the majority of human beings have their own religion? the motto for our country is "In God We Trust", so maybe all those that are believers in God should stay and just do as they were instructed by Jesus to love and serve others as He showed them by His example and His love, but always keeping their hearts and minds on God and things above. The bible is pretty clear about Christians seeking the kingdom of God first, and to walk by faith not by sight. There are many scriptures that discuss God 's grace which was shown by Jesus laying down His own life for His friends, so that the sins of this world would all be covered, and Jesus took our sins, bore our illnesses, he was chastised for our inequities and by His stripes we are healed and His blood washes all sins away from anyone that will just…
