Personal Narrative: My Time At Barnegat High School

Improved Essays
My time at Barnegat High School has helped me to become who I am today and will most defiantly impact what I will do in the future. The teachers and my peers have all been an influence on my life and during the four years that I spent at the school, I have done some things for the school and the community as a way to thank them for giving me the opportunities that they have. It was they who pushed me to keep trying and striding to succeed and without them, I would not have accomplished what I have today. One of the things that I am most proud of doing is helping to bring new clubs and activities to Barnegat High School. This year, with the help of other students and advisors, a new club made it into the ranks of the diverse sea of clubs and groups that already exist. Hopefully in the near future, this new club will have built such a strong following that it will get the chance to go out and represent the school at competitions. As well as the new club, being a member of the music department for three years has given me the opportunity to go out with other students and win awards and show other districts exactly what goes on in Barnegat’s music classes. For my community, I am personally not a fan of highly publicized public help events, but over the years I have participated in several food drives and other care giving operations. It is a great feeling to know that I am helping the community that has given me so much and such a great chance to succeed in life. During my sophomore year in Barnegat High School, I was allowed to go and view the vocational school career day in the auxiliary gym. …show more content…
There I met with a graduate of the school whom I had become friends with through sports. He informed me of a new program in the Ocean County Vocational Technical School Program, and what they were offering was exactly what I wanted to go into as a career. Once accepted into the program, I realized that I was the only student from Barnegat in my specific program. This only motivated me to work harder to gain positive recognition for the school. As well as just academics, I took part in the SkillsUSA competition and in the state level competition, my team and I received silver medals. This competition is just one example of how Barnegat High School has opened the door for me to learn in an advanced setting. It has taught me important team building traits and the college level work in the vocational school has taught me how to better manage my time and schedule to get all of my work done on time. Along with the new traits that will assist me in building my career, the programs that Barnegat High School offers has gotten my foot in the door with different institutions and corporations to allow me to get a small amount of recognition from the people capable of giving me help in the future. This year I will partake in an internship to give me real time skills and assist my learning in vocational school. Also, different associations have recognized the name of Barnegat and the Ocean County Vocational School Program and will help me to get into different colleges and careers that would otherwise been unreachable. With my four years in Barnegat High School, more has

My most positive high school experience for me has to be when I was inducted into National Honor Society for my senior year. This was something that I has been striving to do since my freshman year after I received my first academic letter. But after our school decided to only allow seniors to be inducted, raised the GPA requirement, and reduced the amount of people that would be allowed to be inducted I wasn’t sure if my goal would still be attainable. But after three years of strenuous classes, constant volunteer service, and keeping my grades up I finally received an acceptance letter and was inducted into NHS where I am able to surround myself with others that have the same academic goals as…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…
