Whether I promote to Master Sergeant or not, in the next three to five years, is in the future and I cannot see the future. But, by correctly applying the concepts that I chose as the most important to me in my Personal Leadership Development Plan entries, I will move in the right direction. The five most important concepts that I learned about over the last couple of weeks are, Knowing Others, Individual Consideration (Caring), Followership, Situation, and Diversity Awareness.

To Know Others, I will spend the time observing and talking to my subordinates, peers, and supervisors to learn about them as individuals and team members. Learning about them will help me improve because I will know who I am leading and following and their individual needs. I will apply Individual Consideration through caring enough about what I have learned about them to ensure that I meet their needs. Caring about and meeting their needs will increase my Transformational Leadership and help me move toward the best Leadership Behavior. To execute effective Followership, I will take ownership of my role in the Air Force mission and continuously improve my knowledge and skills while using critical thinking to provide honest feedback and advice to those that surround me. Not only will this make me a better subordinate, Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) and Flight Engineer, but better Followership begets better Leadership because I will be setting the example to my peers and subordinates. I need to focus on more than just relationships and people. I shall analyze the Situation i.e. the “relative circumstances, position or context that surrounds leaders and followers” so that I will form effective and efficient solutions. Understanding the Situation will improve my cognitive thinking and problem-solving skills as a leader, subordinate, and peer. And finally, using Diversity Awareness, I will leverage our differences to improve our relationships and strengthen our teams which will increase the respect that my Airmen, fellow NCO’s and superiors have for each other and my effectiveness as a leader and

At some point, every leader probably thinks about how they want to lead and what is important to him or her as a leader. During the CSC coursework, I wrote my command philosophy, which gave me an opportunity to reflect on past leaders I had encountered, and project how I wanted to lead in the future. The command philosophy was a statement, written to the members of the unit, about what I valued as a leader. This approach to leadership rests on a foundation of ethics, directly supporting an ethos of core values, mode of conduct, leadership principles, and leadership traits (USMC…

Leadership philosophy is a bit hard to do a self-assessment on. When we look at what defines a leader, you have to take multiple factors into consideration. The first being their military style of doing business, and the second being their personal style. I believe you have to take a leader’s personal life style into consideration as well, because it tells you what their true morals, beliefs, and personal values are. We have all had bad or horrible leaders that we had zero respect for, but I feel that we can learn something even from them.…
