Personal Narrative: My First Day At Nagel Middle School

Improved Essays
It was the first day of 8th grade at Nagel Middle School, I was alone and friendless on team 8-1, most of my friends from last year were on different teams. So during lunch I ended up sitting with Jenna Walsh a girl I knew from book club last year, her twin Alex and another girl I had gym with the previous year, Samantha Beinke.
Although it was quite sunny outside, the temperature in the cafeteria felt like it was below freezing point. I turned towards Jenna about to voice my opinion on how the school should not have the fans on when the AC was also on, when I noticed 2 girls headed toward our table. One girl had light brown hair and brownish-green eyes, she was wearing a black t-shirt with a picture of a full moon and a silhouette of a girl on it, I recognized the girl from one of my favorite animes RWBY. The other girl was wearing a loose white t-shirt and jeans and had blond with greenish-blue eyes that caught mine as I was observing her.

“Oh, Hi! I’m Maggie!” I replied, trying to match her enthusiasm.
“Hi Maggie! I’m Grace!” the skinny blond girl replied. I smiled warmly at her and took note of the name. I turned towards the brunette and she introduced herself as Emily. It seemed that both girls were already friends with the others members of the lunch table. We ate and talked about our summer, anime, books and other random topics, suddenly I heard Jenna and Grace mention the three words that made the lunch 100x better.
“I have ‘Fourth of July’ by Fall Out Boy stuck in my head...” Jenna said to Grace.
“I don’t think I can take Independence Day seriously anymore,” I joked, butting into their conversation, “ I’ll just run around screaming ‘IT WAS THE FOURTH OF JULY, YOU AND I, YOU AND I, WERE FIRE, FIRE, FIREWORKS!’.” I watched as their faces showed shock turning to recognizing then to

It was the first day of school at Brooklyn High school and at some ungodly hour, my cold-blooded step brother,Alex, came pounding on my closet door, saying,”Gracie, wake up, it’s time for school!” My real name is Grayson Swift, but he likes to call me Gracie, especially in front of other people. As I got out of bed, I realized I had no nice clothes to wear. All I had was a couple pairs of old jeans, hand-me-down tees, an ugly sweater, and the clothes I had from my Mom and Dad. Those were a black long-sleeve T-shirt, of the Miami Heats ,of course, white nike shorts, and nike socks.…

“Don’t forget, the paper is due next Wednesday!” My 8th period teacher, Mrs. Oakford told to my class and I as we streamed out of the cramped classroom on a Friday. We couldn’t wait to bust out of the schools doors and claim our prize of a short freedom for surviving another busy, exhausting, and slow week of middle school. I rushed to my locker, grabbed everything I would need for the homework due Monday, threw it in my bag and headed down the hall collecting my friends to walk to town to start what I would hope would be a slow but fun weekend off The weekend went quicker than I wished and before I knew it, it was late Sunday night and I still hadn’t done my homework, I realized this and got to work.…

Prior to middle school, I thought I was satisfied with my position. I had friends, got along with my teachers, excelled in sports, and got decent grades in my classes. Back then, I thought this well-roundedness I sought between these necessities would offer me self-satisfaction. Little did I know, however, that I was going to confront this well-rounded nature of mine during my first awards ceremony in middle school. Among the most intelligent, artistic or athletic of the students present there, I was the one of the few who simply struggled to stand out.…
