Seven years ago is when I moved to the small city of Riverbank. While my family and I were in a U- Haul taking our belongings to our new home; I immediately noticed the culture and heritage of the city people as they went about their day. Coincidentally, the day I moved to Riverbank was Cinco de Mayo. Nevertheless, I’m still surrounded by the Hispanic culture to this day whether I’m driving through the city or simply at school. Growing up in a community where over 50% of the people are Hispanic was and continues to be a new experience for me. Coming from a non-Hispanic background, I frequently felt uncomfortable because I felt as if I didn’t fit in with everyone else.
