My time as a Veterinary Technician taught me many things. From how to draw shots to how to take x-rays. One of the most common lessons I learned was how to spay a female canine. Although the Veterinarian is the only one allowed to be “hands-in” during surgery, I learned a lot from watching the procedure. Surgery preparations begin the day before.…
After having already studied for a four-year bachelor's degree, a strong desire by an individual in order to study veterinary medicine for four more years must exist. In veterinary school, instructors learn their students animal medicine, which involves a lot of science math, communication, and some business administration. The graduates receive veterinary college diplomas that they can hang on their office walls. However what if you're interested in animals but you don't want to set through four years of veterinary school or lend all the money you'd need for it from the bank. You might think instead about becoming a veterinary technician a person who assist a veterinarian, you can usually do that with just a two-year college degree.…
I shivered in fear because I hate shots, and I was shocked. I did not expect to hear that, I thought veterinarians just played and put bandages on animals. I sat there thinking about how little I knew about the life of a veterinarian. I then thought how I no longer wanted to be a veterinarian because I did not think about the negatives of being a one and I could not stomach the thought of killing a dog.…
Three careers that would be well suited for me are a cost estimator, an operations research analyst, and a conservation officer. Two of these careers involve quantitative thinking and mathematical skills, while the third career involves enforcing laws and regulations and working outdoors. Due to my interest in working outdoors I have chosen conservation officer as the best career opportunity for me. The first job I researched is a cost estimator. I researched this job because it involves mathematical skills on a daily basis.…
I even earned the privilege of enrolling in Honors and AP courses because of my hard work. My current goals includes finishing my senior year with A’s only, becoming more of an advocate for myself, and graduating high school with an acceptance to a great…
My career goals are to be successful and to change the current status of women around the world. This would not be easy as many have tried, but I believe that technology will be able to change the lives of many. I developed these goals through experiences with narrow-minded family members that do not believe that I am able to achieve all the I have because I am of the female…
Lessons From a Cat Cats have a tendency to randomly show up around people’s houses. They will march on your deck, tear up your screens and sneak into your garage. Sound familiar?…
What is summer? The majority of kids, if asked, will tell you that summer signifies the end of school, the start of fun and freedom. You will find some kids at the pool, the mall, or sleeping in. Many stay home and play video games, while others go to the beach. Instead of spending my time at the pool or with friends, I hung-out with furry, four-legged beast and some rambunctious two-legged, little people.…
My family has many nurses, my mom included, that are role models for me. Conversations about work and health conditions was a reoccurring topic over the the dining table. Where other young kids may have been left with babysitters or daycare centers, my mom brought me with her to her job at a nursing home. Healthcare is my favorite class in high school. I am always excited to tell my mom the new procedure I learned.…
Through the treatment of the family pet or the cow that may be soon on the dinner table I will be able to provide services to my community to ensure its health and safety. I’m excited to be able to share my knowledge with the public and teach them the importance of animals in our lives and improve the field in any way that I can. So from the quick and dirty of large animal medicine to by the book clinical, my answer has changed; I am going to be a…
This week at the Animal Hospital was interesting. On Monday, I held a dog’s leg down in a ultrasound. Her name was Lola. We were trying to figure out what was wrong inside her abdomen.…
I have known from a young age that I wanted to do something exceptional in my life. Something about helping others drew me in, so I knew a career in the medical field would be my best fit. It was not until a traumatic day in my life occurred that made me realize I was bound to be a nurse. I have played volleyball for five year, my senior year was not an exception. Volleyball was the only sport I played and my passion.…
I have had very limited exposure to horses in my lifetime, and therefore I do not currently have the skills needed to ride, let alone, train a horse. Though this is true, I would still like to familiarize myself with these magnificent creatures by helping out anyway I can (cleaning, first aid, repairs…etc.). I do have experience with fundraising, and I would like to become knowledgeable on the topics of rehab and proper horse care. I am also a certified emergency medical technican (NREMT). I do not have experience regarding horses or their care, but I have extensively volunteered at hospitals before.…
Throughout the second half of this semester, I spent some time doing Homeschool PE once a week to complete my field experience hours. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this experience, but I ended up really enjoying it. As a whole, over the past eight weeks, I learned how to be a more effective teacher. To begin, I found that dealing with a group of students who are a wide variety of ages isn’t always easy. One strategy that worked great in overcoming this challenge was the use of stations.…
When I got assigned a kindergarten classroom for my first field experience at Hope College I was ecstatic! I babysit a couple of kids that are kindergarteners so I thought I knew just what to expect. But as I walked into the newly build Rose Park Elementary school on Thursday at 8:00 in the morning nerves started to build. I told the secretary that I was a freshman at Hope and was here for my field experience with Mrs. Vogelzang.…
