Patient data security is critical in every aspect of healthcare. All of patient sensitive information can be difficult to replace and potentially dangerous if it falls into the wrong hands. Qualitative studies done on patient data give insight to how patients feel about their information being shared and their concerns of their sensitive information being shared with unauthorized people as well as qualitative study done to get gather information from healthcare organization such as hospitals on their patient security issues and risk management.

Concerns about privacy and security: Participates talked about their concerns with unauthorized individuals having access to their data and their apprehension of what they will do with it. Other participates had full trust in the health system sharing their information albeit the risk.
2. The potential benefit to a person’s health: Some participates were all for the health information exchange stating that it is can benefit them in improving their health and preventing adverse outcomes.

The desire for more information about the consent process: Participants throughout all groups proposed that the process of obtaining patient consent to the system of health information exchange would need significant patience and more broad data resources. The types of healthcare organizations included in the study were hospitals or clinics that are part of a healthcare network, integrated delivery systems and standalone hospital or clinics. About eighty healthcare organizations participated in this benchmark research and 324 interviews were directed. Respondents interviewed work in every aspect of the organization including security, administrative, privacy, compliance, finance and clinical.
