In terms of storm-water runoff, Patagonia has replaced part of their cooperate parking lots with permeable cement, which allows rainwater to percolate through and into the soil (“Living with Limited Resources”). They have also installed filtering units that filter contaminants before runoff occurs. At their Reno building, they have planted plants that are native and do not need a lot of irrigation. “To reduce water use, all but a couple of urinals are waterless, which saves one gallon per flush (“Living with Limited Resources”).” They have sensors for bathroom sinks and pop-up sprinklers for the areas that need to be irrigated. They use cotton and fibers that go in their clothing, as well as materials such as plastics for their equipment. They definitely have an impact on the environment by using these resources, but Patagonia does whatever they can to restore the resources they use. Patagonia recycles many materials and garments. They state, “Today, we recycle used soda bottles, unusable manufacturing waste and worn-out garments (including our own) into polyester fibers to produce clothing (Recycled Polyester).” They take used products that would be thrown away and further develop them into a new product. By doing this, they are not just throwing the product away and using resources to make a new one, but recycling to create a different product. This helps reduce Patagonia’s ecological footprint by reusing
