Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Introduction
P. aeruginosa belongs to the family called Pseudomonadaceau ( Willey, J., Prescott Microbiology, 2014, p.527). P. aeruginosa is a gram negative bacterium. The shape of this particular bacterium is straight or slightly curved rods, but not helical. The size of this bacterium is about 0.5-1.0 micrometers wide and 1.5-5.0 micrometers long. The arrangement is single, but as is starts to age it forms cysts. P. aeruginosa is an aerobic bacterium with oxygen being the last terminal electron acceptor. However, this bacteria can also grow without the presence of oxygen by acquiring Nitrate (NO3) as an alternate electron acceptor. This bacterium is known to be motile.
