When people make decisions, “acting before thinking it through—happens more often in teens than in adults”, which is why parents need to be involved in their child’s life (Scholastic). Without the guidance of their parents, most children will make audacious decisions that could have severe consequences. Rash decision making can be prevented if parents offer their children advice and guidance. For example, in William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo, a young teen, is criticized by his elder, Friar Laurence, “the sun not yet thy sighs from heaven clears, thy old groans ring yet in my ancient ears” (Shakespeare 1,031). Friar Laurence is chastising Romeo’s hasty judgement to forget Rosaline, his initial love, and move on to Juliet so quickly. Romeo’s parents are hardly ever seen helping him make decisions or even asking him about his problems. Consequently, apart from his parents’ guidance, Romeo makes an impulsive decision, which ultimately leads to his suicide, because Juliet is not someone he should be in love with. Children will make decisions that could potentially harm them or others if their parents are not engaged in their lives. Without parents’ help to see the logical sides of the children’s problems, children can grow up without proper logic and decision-making
