Do we think about helping/caring of other people’s lives or do we think it’s just a waste of time. Making a difference in our world today or in someone’s life is just like a tiny seed. One thing they all both had in common is that they all showed acts of kindness towards others! The book “Christmas Jars” is based on a family tradition where you fill a jar with money everyday for one whole year. Then, when it’s the week before Christmas you give the jar filled with money to someone in need. Such as when Marianne’s husband stole all of Marianne’s money from her bank account. Marianne was torn apart like someone had pushed her so hard she couldn’t get up. Life had hit her at the hardest until she met the Christmas jar. After, Marianne had found out that her husband had stole all of her money from her bank account she was weeping at the bus stop until, a little girl (Hannah Maxwell) had gave her a big jar filled with money that her family had collected for one whole year to buy Christmas gifts to one another. Hannah Maxwell’s father, Adam Maxwell, had a choice to either give Marianne the money or just take the money back and walk away. Adam didn't walk away, instead he let Marianne keep the money. Adam’s choice impacted Marianne’s life forever. That one act of kindness showed that he put others before himself. Saint Francis of Assisi did kind acts towards others too! Petrarch's model of religious and personal virtue in his Ascent of Mont Ventoux is similar to the beliefs of both Saint Francis and the Rule of Saint Benedict. This is significant because it brings to light the influence that the Church had on Humanism. In the Rule of Saint Benedict, Benedict writes that no monk is to "bear false witness" (124). Petrarch exhibits the same thought process while writing to Dionigi, when he continues to correct himself for lying about what he loves.…

Francis continued to grow spiritually and felt a calling of going out and spreading the word of the Lord to continue his habits of following the lord. If it weren't for Francis’s ability to stand to his virtues, he would not have made such an impact on the world like he has. Now he had a lot of virtues and I can’t even think of a vice that he had in his later days. Some of the good habits that allowed for him to do such good was following one of God’s most important laws; Loving everyone. Francis treated each person and all of creation as if they were all gifts from God above.…

There are a variety of things people do to mold the world around them into a better place, but we chose to highlight acts of kindness within our community due to the simultaneous diversity and specificity of the topic. In particular, we chose to recognize a junior boy named Carl Fraser who holds the door open at the east wing of our high school each morning. Rain or shine, it doesn’t matter, there is rarely a day he is not standing in that doorway doing a job he doesn’t need to do. However, that is what is special about acts of kindness: They don’t need to be done, but they’re done out of the goodness of people’s hearts. Another student we recognized is a senior girl named Snigdha Kalathur.…

Mother Teresa once said, “A sacrifice to be real must cost, must hurt, must empty ourselves. As a nun working in the slums of Calcutta, she possessed true humbleness and embraced humility in her work. She is an excellent model of how one should live out The Beatitudes.…

Be the change you wish to see in the world; Mahatma Gandhi's words of wisdom still ring true to me in my everyday life. His words invoke me to look within myself and evaluate how my good deeds can somehow be powerful enough to change the world. Volunteering at Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls kindled a fire within me and made me realize that I will not tolerate being a bystander in the world; I must be proactive in order to see results. This center allowed me to see how simply packing, sorting, and shining shoes can help a young child's get to school easier, allow a young soccer play to sign up for their local team, or protect a child from walking on harsh terrain while trying to collect water. The reason why I volunteer is because I wish for the child's troubles to be nonexistent, I want to live in a world where people don’t have to worry about having a function pair of shoes.…

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” —Aesop In a world full of hate and war, most people forget that a small act of random kindness can change even the saddest of hearts. Kindness has become a foreign language, one I make an effort to practice everyday. I work in a coffee shop, which requires a tremendous about of patience, as well as hospitality and customer service. Everyday, I make it apparent to myself that you never know what is going through an individual's mind, or the day they have had.…

More than 10,000 people are homeless in Atlanta on any given night, and I was given the opportunity to go and help them. A year and a half ago I went up, from my lovely suburban hometown in Orlando, Florida, to the urban hub of Atlanta, Georgia with my local church’s youth group to help out with the homeless epidemic. Being a veteran of mission trips, I was prepared to help out people who needed help and let the kindness of God move through me like a beacon of love, but I was never prepared for all of it to change the way I viewed life. Morals inculcated in me on that trip still affect my decisions to this day. Morals such as being selfless, having patience, and having empathy profoundly define me as a person because of this trip.…
