Why you need to do this, is that the oil can leave a stain on the area, where it hits on the ground or floor. Another reason why, is that after the oil change is done, you need to recycle it instead of throwing it out. Why you recycle it instead of pouring it down a drain is that it can hurt the pipes, and hurt the environment since it is toxic to living things. After the pan is placed under the area, you then take the wrench and undo the plug,to release the oil into it. For this task, you need the oil filter wrench. This wrench fits around the oil filter, and it allows you to get a grip on it, and pull it out. After you get the filter out, you have to drain the oil into the oil pan where the rest of it is. Be careful, because if you drop this into the oil, it will splash the oil in the pan,and cause it to make a mess. When you do pull the filter out, there is a little rubber circle, that should be coming out with it. If there is no filter gasket, then it should be inside the area the filter came out of,all you have to do, is pull it out.
After that step is done, it is time to put the filter back in. It is better, to get a decently priced filter, because if you go cheap it is most likely not going to work well. A decent oil filter, costs $9.99 - $16.99, it does depend on what make and model you have and how old it is. The filter, is a metal cylinder, and has cardboard in it to soak up the oil to filter certain things from the oil that you put in your car, and the ingredients in gas. After the filter is put in the space it is supposed to be in, the filter wrench is the tool that you need to tighten it back into place so it will not fall
