North Middle School Dress Code The dress code at North Middle School should be as followed:
1. Shoes must adhere to safety rules and have hard soles.
2.Skirts and shorts must have a 4 inch inseam.
3. Long hair must be done up in a way in which is not distracting.
4. Shirts must have appropriate coverage of undergarments and have at least a 1 inch shoulder strap.
5. Accessories should be allowed as long as it does not obstruct face.
6. No graphic or offensive images should be displayed in clothing.

First of all, my dress code is not too limiting for students or staff. According to the Gale Cengage Opposing Viewpoints In Context, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reported that 20 percent of American public schools required students to wear a uniform in 2014, and also in 2014 nearly 60 percent of American public schools had strict dress codes; however my dress code allows students freedom while also adhering to safety, distraction, and decency policies. Clothing having to with graphic/violent or religious scenes can offend many people, which is why many dress codes are strict about this, and so is mine. However at the same time, my dress code still allows for students to express themselves to a degree. One case involved several high school students who wore black armbands to school to protest U.S. involvement in Vietnam. School officials quickly enacted a no armband policy. My dress code would allow this sort of thing as long as it doesn’t show any signs of violence breaking

The school dress code has been argued about for years. There are some that say yes, in fact there are 20% that say that the dress code is good and that it is needed. There are 80% that say that it is not good and it is not needed. Some of the reasons are for safety. We all know that group of girls who show up to school with their breast popping out of their shirts, butts hanging out of their shorts, and belly shirts that show way too much skin. Obviously, dressing like this to school is in no way appropriate, and should be addressed. Another argument of why the dress code should be enforced is the fact that school is a learning environment and that we should be teaching kids how to dress for the future. By doing this, you are helping young adults understand that wearing a crop top or (for boys) wearing saggy pants to an interview definitely won’t get you a job. Others may say that enforcing the dress code, like providing school uniforms, will help families that are in poverty and will decrease bullying when it comes to making fun of someone’s…

What I've come to experience with the dress down is a negative. I remember waking up knowing we had a dress down to not worry about putting my uniform in the washer/dryer. I just threw a t-shirt and a pair of shorts, and I come to school and apparently I just violated the dress code.…

Poverty is a huge problem for schools with uniforms. Most dress codes usually require or can require specific shirts, sweaters, jackets, skirts, and socks. In some instances, they must wear ties which students may feel distressed wearing due to tightness, itchiness or poor fit. Uniforms are not comfortable for all students and there is a potential for discomfort that can disrupt the student’s focus. A school dress code can be costly depending on how strict the dress code is to a student whose family has a lower income.…

There are many differences in school dress codes, for examples in our school, Sunset Ridge Middle School who has 12 different rules, the major being that we are not allowed to wear any articles of clothing that are mutilated, cut-off, or immodest. Stapley Junior High in Mesa, Arizona who only has six rules, are allowed to wear any article of clothing that do not show any straps, see through, or do not cover the entire back. Schools in different states have different dress code rules along with having teachers and administrators who have different interpretations of how they should be. Therefore, we do not know what dress code is the best or most correct for students and should allow the student to have their own decision in what they…

Dress code is a subject that students feel should be less strict. Certain ideas and concepts pertaining to school dress code can be more lenient while still being effective. There are many unnecessary rules that could easily be fixed instead of being so forbidding. For example, the sexism and gender bias in the code is derogatory towards female students. However, it is agreed that we should have a dress code of some sort rather than eliminating it all together.…

Asking girls to bend over in front of a group of students is some of the worst humiliation possible. Females are being publicly humiliated when they should be pulled aside if they even are truly breaking the dress code. The school dress code is wrong to humiliate females over a rule that they might not even be breaking. On the contrary, school dress codes can be important for all students. Ever since we started school we’ve had to deal with dress code. However, schools have different rules such as whether you have to wear uniforms or how short your skirts can be. My elementary school required us to wear uniforms and as the years went on the dress code got progressively stricter. When I moved on to high school it wasn’t much better. They would constantly send people to the office to get a change of clothes, but by doing this they also removed students from their classes, making them fall behind.…
