1. Shoes must adhere to safety rules and have hard soles.
2.Skirts and shorts must have a 4 inch inseam.
3. Long hair must be done up in a way in which is not distracting.
4. Shirts must have appropriate coverage of undergarments and have at least a 1 inch shoulder strap.
5. Accessories should be allowed as long as it does not obstruct face.
6. No graphic or offensive images should be displayed in clothing.
I believe that this dress code is a good fit for our school because of three reasons: students will not be too limited, it protects students and staff from being offended, and it is reasonable.
First of all, my dress code is not too limiting for students or staff. According to the Gale Cengage Opposing Viewpoints In Context, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reported that 20 percent of American public schools required students to wear a uniform in 2014, and also in 2014 nearly 60 percent of American public schools had strict dress codes; however my dress code allows students freedom while also adhering to safety, distraction, and decency policies. Clothing having to with graphic/violent or religious scenes can offend many people, which is why many dress codes are strict about this, and so is mine. However at the same time, my dress code still allows for students to express themselves to a degree. One case involved several high school students who wore black armbands to school to protest U.S. involvement in Vietnam. School officials quickly enacted a no armband policy. The students sued the school through their parents after being told they couldn’t wear their armbands to school.
