One kind of life-alienating communication is the use of moralistic judgments that imply wrongness or badness on the part of people who don’t act in harmony with other values (Rosenberg 15). With consideration that everyone is raised differently and could consider somethings wrong and correct different than others, it is thought that when I say “you’re absolutely bonkers” my family will perceive it as a joke, but others could consider it an enormous insult. In nonviolent communication you must realize there are occasions when we may choose not to verbally reflect someone’s statement out of respect for certain cultural norms (Rosenberg 98). For example during my reading I found some statements that could be considered stereotypical or even a bit racist, on page 83, 2nd paragraph, there is a statement “I’ve learned always to say “Sir” to people with biceps like his, especially when one of them sports a tattoo” (Rosenberg 83).
