Among the giant planets in the Solar System, Neptune is the most dense, even though it is the smallest out of the gas giants. Neptune was named after the Roman god of sea because it looked like a giant ocean, due to its blue appearance. Neptune is composed of many gases such as hydrogen (80%), helium (19%), and methane (1.5%). It is also overall composed of 25% rock and 60-70% ice. Neptune is 3.9 times bigger than earth. The mass of Neptune is 1.02 x 1026 kg, or 17.15 times as much as the mass of earth. The radius is 15,299 miles. Neptune’s distance from the sun is 2,795,000,000 miles away. Neptune’s density is 1.638 per cubic centimeter. The surface temperature of Neptune is -201 ⁰C, but has no definite surface layer. It has an average temperature of -214 Celsius. Neptune's diameter is 49,532 km equatorial. The Sun’s electromagnetic radiation effects Neptune by heating up its atmosphere and surface by the energy the sun is producing.
