I’ve never had what most would consider a normal family. I began my life living with my mom and my grandparents, as my mom was a single parent. That, to my dismay, changed when I was two years old and my mother got married. She moved in with her husband, but due to the late hours she worked that would’ve caused her to barely see me, I ended up staying with my grandparents. My mom’s always been in my life and been there for me, but my grandparents raised me. It was a huge shock to my family when my grandfather passed away. I was six years old, and my grandmother was left alone to raise me. Even though she was rattled by the death of my grandfather, she carried on and devoted her life to making sure I had a great life and grew up to be the best I could be. Taking care of my grandmother for so long inspired me to want to be an occupational therapist, so I can help others the way I helped her. I want to get a masters degree and possibly go back for a doctorate, because I don’t want to be just another occupational therapist working to get paid, I want to be that person that someone thanks for helping them live life again. I want to be the one who helps someone walk again, or that helps a child with a disability grow up with the skills to be whoever they want to be, but mostly, I never want to forget what inspired me to do just that; caring for my grandmother, and honoring the way she took care of
