My second semester in and I was already asking myself if I was sure I was ready for this. Was I sure I could take a writing class and succeed? Why was I taking a writing class? Was it just because I had to take it, as a requirement? Yet, here I am with only a matter of days left, and I have survived! I’m not going to become a journalist, or write a novel. But the truth is, we all need to know how to effectively write. Whether it’s a resume for after graduation, or a letter of recommendation for a colleague, we need to know how to put together our thoughts into something of structure. But back then, it consisted of fights with friends, and which boy I had a crush on. As an adult, I wasn’t quite as successful in sticking with journal writing, but I have tried from time to time. The video also provided some health benefits from keeping a journal. Some of them I was aware of, such as the stress relief factor, and seeing goals in writing to help achieve those goals. The American Psychiatric Association says that expressive writing reduces intrusive and avoidant thoughts about negative events and improves working memory. I started my journey through writing this year a bundle of nerves and a stomach full of coffee. This is my first year taking an advanced English course, but I was determined to do well. There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

In high school, my teachers never had me write reflections on any of my work; therefore, I thought it was quite odd that I had to do it for this course. At the start of the semester, I did not see the point in writing reflections and really did not put much effort into them. I started to see the value in writing reflections as the semester progressed. I started to see that reflecting on my work benefits the reader and myself. Reflections allow the reader to see my thoughts on my process and writing; furthermore, reflections allow me to think about problems I encountered and how I worked past them and show my progression as a writer.…

I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

Writing an essay about my experience as a writer and how I feel when I write. I thought should be a breeze until, I received my grade back. It was not a horrible grade, nor what I was expecting. When reading the teacher’s comment “While you did write your response in several paragraphs, it isn 't fully a reflective essay. To be an essay, it must include an introduction paragraph that ends with a thesis/focus sentence, supporting body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph.”…

Adepeju Folasade Olaniyi EDLL 6040 One of my favorites saying can be traced to Socrates who submitted that an ‘unexamined life is not worth living’. This holds well for me because I believe it is beneficial to look back once in a while and get some valuable feedbacks from events and happenings in one’s life. Not only that, reflection is linked to the notion of experiential learning which helps in looking at lessons learned from past experiences and proffer different approaches that would bring better results and greater productivity. Also, a study conducted by Giada di Stefano (2014) opined that reflection provides an added advantage for future learning outcomes. In my view, a reflection paper emphases your responses and examination of a major event in certain areas of your life which is what I intend to do with this write up.…
