Prompt #4: Discuss what you plan to do professionally as an educator. Provide your response here: I plan to be a successful elementary teacher by using the growth mindset and use dialogic teaching. Also, I want to motivate my students with having high expectations in the classroom. I have learned critical thinking is important for students to have in order to get a job, so I would like to reinforce critical thinking by using dialogic teaching. I know my teaching styles will need to change from year to year based on the type of classroom I have, all students are not the same.…
I decided when I was in the 6th grade that I wanted to go into the teaching profession. While I do not remember the name of the teacher that inspired my decision, I remember her face and how much she made me enjoy Social Studies. I originally wanted to teach math, but 10th grade math changed my mind and I settled into the English curriculum. College showed me just how much my teachers had hidden the immense amount of work that goes into teaching and I had many panic attacks about the workload.…
I knew from a young age that teaching was what I was meant to do. Shadowing a teacher for a day in eight grade cemented for me that I was going to be a teacher. While the age of the student I was wanting to teach has changed as I've gotten older that drive to teach has never left. Working as an Educational Assistant at St. Louis Community College has only poured gasoline on that fire and passion for teaching. I can no longer put off pursuing my education to become a mathematics professor.…
College has never been something spoken of growing up in my home. My family worked very hard but never mentioned College. I thought of college a time or two but it wasn 't until I got married and desiring children that it began to weigh on my mind. One of my dreams is for my children to get a great education and attend college but in order for my children to have such a strong desire they will have to see it displaying in me. About three years ago I started working with my husband going into public schools assisting him while he teaches teachers about their retirement.…
Honestly, I never thought I would ever be interested in being a teacher. All throughout my early childhood, I always wanted to be a doctor; I loved the idea of assisting others in their time of need and even saving their lives from time to time. Unfortunately, I realized as I got older that I really was not interested in (or good at) math or science; therefore, that dream died quite quickly. Having been fortunate enough to having supportive parents, I have always felt that I was able to experiment and pursue the subjects that interested me the most; however, I had no idea that my interests would revolve around the world of music. My passion for music and the education that I was lucky enough to have received have both made me strive to discover…
Teaching came quite naturally to me. I do not wish to imply that teaching is easy, I have much to learn and an intense desire to do so. Nevertheless it would appear that I was inclined to be in this profession. It enabled me to make a difference via a different medium. At its core teaching is about engaging the mind; it is about helping students make meaningful relationships between subject matter and their environment.…
Education growing up was never my focus or top priority. However, after years of dead end jobs and feeling fatigued, my perspective changed. I gained a value and the moral merits to desire an education. With that desire in my mind and heart, I started the pursuit of earning my general education degree.…
Standing in front of a crowd, nerves shaking as I, a soon to be junior in high school, have decided to conduct for a community band. I had stepped up since the band was going to have a "year off" and had been working for several weeks with a small group of students. I found the venue, rehearsal hall, times, and the arrangements. The students and myself had put in long hours and the day had come to perform in front of the community. As I stepped up, I saw the nervous faces that I taught and smiled, turned around and introduced the band to the community.…
The most important aspects of an outstanding educator include a combination of passion for students, for the subject matter being taught, and for striving for excellence both inside and outside of the classroom. The elements of an outstanding educator can only come from dedication and a significant amount of hard work. Teaching is an incredibly rewarding, but also incredibly difficult career path. Although the path of an educator is difficult, a passionate teacher will see the rewards that come with it. Outstanding educators are those who have genuine passion and love for the students in the classroom.…
My entire family is made up of teachers, except for me. I always appreciated the invaluable work of teachers, but never wanted to become one. I thought that the true embodiment of an educator was just a teacher, someone who leads by example inside and outside the classroom. I have always been academically inspired to do well in school, however, it was not until being at Stonehill that I found my personal pathway. I strayed from the path of those in my family and chose to be an accounting major.…
Question 1: Tell me about yourself. My mother and both grandmothers were teachers. I have two aunts in teaching and one who recently received her doctorate in educational psychology. To say it runs in the family would be an understatement.…
What are your three (3) most important reasons for wanting to be a teacher? Being a teacher is the without doubt the hardest work I have ever done, but no other type of job has ever given me as much satisfaction. Helping my students to comprehend the science behind this world we live in and watching their critical thinking skills grow warms my heart. I think teachers play a critical role in society in these rapidly changings times, a basic comprehension of scientific method is crucial to the development of an informed citizenry. Finally, I enjoy being around young people and watching them develop and grow.…
When people think of a good teacher they think of one that is nice, encouraging, trusting, and many other adjectives. Unlike most people, who change their mind on the career they want, I knew from the start that I wanted to be a teacher. I have many goals I hope to achieve when I am a teacher for example, making class a fun and exciting environment for the students and have them look forward to coming to class. I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was young because I had a teacher that I had a close relationship with and made me love school. Ever since I had her as a teacher I knew that I wanted to be like her and teach like she did.…
Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher. I enjoyed playing school with my younger brother because I was always the teacher. I also enjoyed being an assistant teacher at my dance studio. From a young age, I was involved with teaching, but specifically interactions with younger children. I thrive in environments where I can interact and help others.…
