1. The definition of leadership varies to each individual person and is greatly influenced on those who have influenced them in someway either positive or negative in the pass. My own personal definition of leadership is guiding a group of people toward a common goal or vision. During my last 27 years of service I have served under a variety of leaders, some good and some bad but have always learned something and have taken something away from their own style of leadership and have applied it to my own way of leading.

Three leadership behaviors I would change, would be asking for more feedback on actions that affect other peoples performance. At ASSIST I always talk to my techs that I send out on the road and debrief what issues and problems arose and decision and solutions were made. I will now ask to see what myself and what we could do as a team better to offer more support to each other while on the road. The second behavior I would change is asking what can we learn when things don’t go as expected. Often times casualty repairs we attempt to accomplish do not go as planned. This is either due to wrong parts being ordered, parts not being delivered when expected, or encountering more issues than initially expected. By asking this and ensuring lessons learned are included on trip reports, we will be able to better plan when responding to similar casualties regardless of the cutter class. The third and final trait I am going to try to change is taking myself more seriously and slow down a bit. I believe I am carefree and easy going by nature. I try not to take things to seriously and always take things with a grain of salt. Instead of being the joker I will try to step back and be smarter of things. I also have a tendency to lock onto an idea or project and going full speed with it. Sometimes I will become so locked on to something I will miss the full picture and make the wrong decision. By slowing down I will hopefully see all the minute details I may
