Now that I am very close to finishing the spring semester of my third year, this is no longer the case. While it is an option to get my master’s degree and then immediately look into getting my OTD, I think I would prefer to work a few years in the field and then go back. At this point in my life, I think that is what I will do, but I am also concerned that if I do not go and get my OTD right after I graduate I will not go at all. Again, even though I am closer to graduation the OTD and when and where I will get it is still a little bit abstract for

My entire life I have been surrounded and encouraged by people to care for others. For instance, my mother works in health care as a hospice and home health aid. When she gets home from work I can tell in the way she talks about her occupation that she is thrilled to help her clients live happier and healthier lives. This has led me to want a career that would directly work with people, and watch patients grow independently. In high school I did some research to what careers that would offer just that.…

Beginning this class, I was not sure what to expect because I did not really know what community health was. I signed up for the class to fulfill the requirement for my minor. Throughout this class, I have learned so much about the aspects of the community health, agencies, drug abuse, health rates, and disease types and control. These were all topics that were greatly interesting to me and I feel like the class improved my understanding of the way in which many communities operate. It also taught me the correct meaning of many terms that I thought I knew what they meant, but I had heard them used incorrectly so often that I associated the wrong meaning with the word.…

In a nutshell, this course was eye-opening for me. My first placement was in physical education and at the start of this course I did not believe that much of it would apply to my first teachable. I knew that there were easy ways to work literacy into my health lessons, but I was unaware of the possibilities of working literacy into everyday lessons in the gym. The information I have gained from my peers and the instructor will be put somewhere I can easily gain access to when I begin my own teaching career. I can only hope this class was as useful to my peers as it was for me.…
