Modern Day Golden Rule Research Paper

The modern day golden rule. “Treat people the way you’d like them to treat you”. A saying most of us try and live by. How many times as a parent do you find yourself saying these words to your children? Often times you venture out of the safety and comfort of your home and never know what you are in for once you come in contact with others in the outside world. There are rude and disrespectful people everywhere today that you will at some point come in contact with in the workplace, at a grocery store or even your child’s school. What has happened to our society that this is happening more often these days? Often times people demand respect, love and appreciation, even if they deserve it or not. My parents taught us if you want to be shown respect, then be respectful yourself. Does that mean you will always be treated correctly? Of course not. Does that mean people will behave when they are in public? Most likely not, but that should never dictate your behavior.

It has been said that you can tell how a person was raised by how they behave in public. I believe there is an issue of a lack of respect for others which I believe in turn means there is no respect for …show more content…
Joe Wilson yelling out “You Lie” during his health care speech. Rude, thoughtless and inconsiderate behavior is becoming the “norm”. Basic manners when heard are becoming a surprise and anti-social behavior is fast becoming an everyday occurrence. “Hi. My name is Common Courtesy. Allow me to introduce myself to you. I have excellent manners and social conduct. I am polite, respectful, considerate, civil, thoughtful, cordial, tactful, and gracious. And I am sadly lacking in your society. In fact, some of you I’ve never even met.”
