Pay Servers A Livable Wage

The U.S.'s minimum tipped wage has been frozen since 1991. The minimum wage for non-tipped employees has almost doubled, during the same time. This is a good reason for a wage increase. I have never been a server myself, because of the federal tipped minimum wage. The hourly rate you get paid, is assuming that you can make a living with the tips you get instead of the hourly wage. What if, you don't get tipped enough? You would either have to take a second job or not make enough to live. The cost of living nowadays is so high, that servers cannot live on tips alone. Therefore, the minimum wage should be the same as a non-tipped minimum wage, plus tips. Also, Serving is hard. It's a job where no matter

What people fail to understand is that if minimum wage was increased then business owners have to make a way to afford to pay their employees. Grant it, employees will make more money and possibly be able to afford the cost of living, but some studies have shown that it’s not really worth the hassle if prices of food, clothing, gas, and etc. were to arise. Not to mention, if minimum wage was increased to $15 an hour the price of many restaurants would rise by an estimated 4.3 percent. The only other way to compensate for the increase on the minimum wage for the employee is to change the food size rather than prices. Is it really worth it?…

The federal minimum wage is currently set at $7.25 per hour. Many people around the nation are pushing for the minimum wage to be raised to $15 per hour, almost double of what it is set at now. This may sound like a good thing when first hearing it, however the effects that it will have on the economy will be far worse than having a lower minimum wage. If the minimum wage was raised to $15 per hour the inflation would also raise due to businesses raising prices to cover for employee costs, people will also not be motivated to seek higher education, and small businesses may be forced to close down due to rising costs. The minimum wage should stay where it is at now and not be raised to $15 per hour.…

I believe that servers should be paid the higher federal minimum wage for non-tipped employes. Servers, even if they give good service, are often under tipped and in some cases, not tipped at all. As cost of living increases, a servers pay also should increase just as any other workers would when minimum wage is increased. In my expeirance, most servers at least try to do their job well.…

The topic area that I am most interested in at this time is the minimum wage in the United States (U.S.). The title on this paper is not the title for my dissertation, I just haven’t thought of one as of yet. The reason this topic has captured my attention, is because there are numerous research available on the subject. However, I didn’t see a lot of recent research about certain occupations that I believe should be a good contribution to the study. Majority of the research that I have seen so far, are related to teen unemployment, the poverty level and tip workers.…

When working as a server where I work we make half of what the minimum wage is;which, is $5.45 an hour. Getting paid that amount of money an hour doesn't amount to much.their checks are obviously smaller than the others working in the restaurant. Most of the money that a server makes goes to taxes, and they are left with barely anything. For a server their tips account for the majority of their income. A server might have a lot of tables in one day, but to not tip a server because that person may think they made a certain amount of money that night isn’t really fair to them.…

An hourly pay rate would actually do more harm than good. With no incentive to work hard and get a good tip, servers might not work as hard and give customers the best possible experience. In an interview with restaurant servers “They all strongly agreed that overall service quality would drop precipitously if their tip income were replaced with a fixed hourly wage” (McKenzie 2). I just make sense to keep the tipping system. There is actually a current law that states that businesses don’t have to pay their servers minimum wage.…

Millions of people and families would benefit from an increase in the minimum wage. Today the federal minimum wage is currently at $7.25, but should be at nearly $10, or better yet even higher. But the last time Congress voted to raise the wage to its current rate of $7.25 an hour was seven years ago. Since then, the cost of life 's essentials have shot up. Groceries cost 20% more, a gallon of gas costs 25%more, and average tuition at a community college increased 44%.…
