Government policies for Military Veterans
Our government sometimes does many things for our military veterans that may make life easier on them or reward them for their actions. However, there are also some issues with these benefits or the lack of there of. Some veterans struggle to make it by when they get out of the military. This paper will elaborate on what the government does or fails to do for military veterans. Some of these policies may include VA benefits for those who were involved in or with agent orange or other herbicidal chemicals. Such as homeless veterans, there are thousands of homeless veterans that roam the streets of the U.S. as they feel they are unfit to live in society or hold a normal job. Some may be suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) which is a disease that some veterans suffer from that gives them terrifying flash backs or similar symptoms from war, and living in a normal environment may frighten them because there may be to many people around or loud noises. This is where a nonprofit organization called the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. “The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV) – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a 23-member board of directors – is the resource and technical assistance center for a national network of community-based service providers and local, state and federal agencies that provide emergency and supportive housing, food, health services, job training and placement assistance, legal aid and case management support for hundreds of thousands of homeless veterans each year.” (NCHV.Org) This organization is a very great way to find a way to do what we can to help the many homeless veterans. It helps feed, shelter, find jobs for the homeless veterans, and more including health care.
