Memorize the Ten Commandments given to Moses by God. You most likely learned them when a child; it is time to give yourself a refresher course. The Ten Commandments can be found in the Old Testament in the Book of Exodus, Chapter 20, and the Book of Deuteronomy, Chapter 5.
Find a copy of the movie “The Ten Commandments” staring Charles Heston and live the book of Exodus in living color. Witness God’s interaction with sinful man. The movie is usually shown by one of the major television networks at Easter.
Memorize the Two Great Commandments given to us by Jesus Christ as listed above.

The first and most important Precept clarifies the third Commandment to “Keep holy the Lord’s Day.” Weekly attendance at Mass on Sundays is a requirement to being a Catholic. The second and third Precepts invite us to grow closer to the risen Lord through the Sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist. The fourth Precept helps us to redirect our attention from earthly distractions back to our God. The last Precept supports the growth of local and missionary efforts of the church.

The Catholic Church is no different in this perspective. The bishops, in union with the Pope, have established the five precepts.
Given our societal mentality, the first precept is most likely the hardest to follow. Sunday has become another day during which we start and/or finish our weekly tasks. Sunday must clearly be defined as God’s day. I teach my 4th grade students that to fulfill this precept and the Third Commandment they must - o attend Sunday Mass o abstain from unnecessary work o enjoy time with family and friends.
God rested on the seventh day setting Himself as an example to His creation. Very directly God tells us to “Keep My Day Holy”.
Reminder – for the dioceses of the United States the days for fasting are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The days of abstinence are Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during Lent. I am Proud to be a Catholic
