One of the pressing concerns in the nursing service nowadays is leadership competency among managers is the needed skills that one must possess. The skills mentioned are the competencies that nursing service has to look into. One best example, instances like unresolved problems at their level. Consequently, the problem is full blown when they intervened. This is just a few problems in the nursing service as to leadership is concern.
This article will identify characteristics of a leader that are needed for them to survive and armed themselves with the values for them to be more effective. Probably, this is so because they lack exposure in the field considering they are mostly novice in their profession. This is brought about by resignation

However, one of the styles that attracted most leaders is the transactional and transformational leadership model. According to Mc Gregor’s definition it is a relationship of mutual stimulation and elevation that converts followers into leaders. It occurs in one or more persons engage with others in such a way that leaders and followers raise one another to higher level of boost and morality. An author named Bolden, et al (in Covey: Transformational Leadership, 1992), also described that its goal is to transform people and the organization to change them in mind and heart enlarge vision, insight, and understanding; to clarify purposes, make behavior congruent with beliefs, principles, values and bring about changes that are permanent, self-perpetuating and momentum building. Other theorists named Bass and Avolio (Transformational Leadership Styles and Behaviours, 1994) states that transformational leadership is a process in which the leaders take action to increase their associates’ awareness of what is right and important to bring their associates to its maturity level. As illustrated in the model, there certain behaviors that one must possess to reach to the level of being a transformational leader. A leader in this sense has idealized behavior of which talks about the importance of having a purpose and purpose of trusting each other. On the other hand, inspirational motivation is characterized by an optimistic attitude of a leader that goals will be achieved. He takes a stand on issues. Another characteristic that a leader is to posses the ability to stimulate others by asking others ideas in solving problems. This means that a leader will get involve of the personnel in tackling the issues. Coaching is also one of the behaviors that a leader must posses. A leader must spend time teaching the personnel and help them to develop their strengths to promote self development. Therefore, one must act in ways that builds others’
