On www.history.com it states that Martin Luther King Jr. told one of the most famous speeches. He was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. He got married to Coretta Scott in 1953 and had 4 children. He attended Booker T. Washington high school. He was a social activist and a Baptist Minister. In 1957, he was elected president of the Southern Christian leadership conference. He became a pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He entered school at age 5 and skipped 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. In 1948, he organized a demonstration in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. He gave a speech “I Have a Dream” in Detroit, and it changed the world.
Initially, Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech in Detroit, to 150,000 supporters. On www.history.com it states that Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech became one of the most famous influential speeches in 1963. His speech set the tone and movement. It affected Americans, most of all. They were ready to fight in the south. It gained the respect of many political leaders and gave him potential power. On www.history.com it also states that he didn’t even sit down to write the speech until after arriving at his hotel room. Later that evening, he finished up a draft at midnight. He stayed up till midnight just to think and write down his speech to give to his supporters. He spoke over twenty-five hundred times and traveled for 6 months. He did that to show respect to his supporters and gain power. I think his speech was very important because it was for freedom and jobs.
