Manuel Munoz: A Short Story

Improved Essays
Going into this event I didn’t expect much. I had never heard of Manuel Munoz and honestly didn’t care for him. Brutal as that sound, I actually came to like him. He was a funny man whom had an interesting childhood and life story. He also had a sense of humor in his stories so I actually enjoyed his event. Not to mention it was only 45 minutes! Sweet! So first I’d like to start with the physical set up of the room which held the event. It was great, cozy, and well lit. The seats were all well within listening range and were elevated high enough to were everyone could see the speaker and nobody blocked anyone’s views unless you were a towering giant. The stage setting was basic, but simple. That’s all it needed honestly. The temperature in the room was setting to a degree which I felt extremely comfortable. I only wish my dorm was that nice. Next off is the quality of the performance. It was good. The subject he spoke on were very interesting. At first he seemed very nervous, didn’t make much eye contact, and was a bit shaky. Once he warmed up to everyone he was well off and those issues were no longer a problem. He used a good pitch when he spoke and kept a consistent rate throughout the event. He used good hand gestures and had a good sense of humor. He read a bit from one of his upcoming books about his grandmother and who they had an odd relationship. He talked about his childhood a lot. I learned that Manuel was born and raised in Central Valley, CA were he usually writes his stories about. He talked about how he thought he had a strange childhood and I believe him from his stories about his grandmother. His performance wasn’t long but it wasn’t short. It was well within that Goldie locks range, perfectly in-between. He had no offensive material in his speaking nor had anything too disturbing. His talk was a little bit uplifting because he made the event fun and that was after a long rainy period of time. His event had value but I couldn’t pick out what it was. He just brought a sense of fun and humor into the room. This made his work convey …show more content…
He talked about how he got his job at the University of Arizona. So he started out in New York as a production editor got a called to come out to a school to see if he wanted to teach. Well he wasn’t interested but still went. After seeing everything he wanted to teach but didn’t get the job. So when Arizona asked him he wanted the job and got it. He talked about his work life and how he loves to revolve his novels about Hitchcock and how editors won’t allow Spanish titles which was quite humorous to me. He left on us advice on those who wish to become a writer, “It’s a lot harder than you think it is”. In conclusion, Manuel Munoz is quite the character. The man who introduced him said the first story he read by him ended with a hand job which was very odd but hilarious. The performance excelled with the interesting life stories, what he read from his novel, and the motivation and advice he delivered. Would definitely recommended seeing him in the future to anyone who is given the

Opening night, the dancers that performed in the University Dance Theatre production, had talent, agility, and graceful movements. The concert had a variety of dance genres, visual appeal, and emotions that each piece and the show overall represented. Humor, drama, and serenity were not emotions I thought I would receive while watching these dances. One thing I did not realize would make many of the pieces was how crucial and reliant lighting and graphics were necessary to make the piece more visually interesting. However, I was excepting similar dances and movements; even if, some pieces had comparable choreography and emotional appeal the diversity stood out.…
