Love is a neurological state created by the brain not just an emotion. The part of the brain that love is centered works like it would if someone was on drugs. One could still consider love as an emotion. Every feeling that can be felt by someone like anger, happiness etc. are felt when someone tells themselves that they love or are in love with someone. All of which triggers a part of the brain. People describe love in many different ways. “Philosophers and poets have pondered the nature of this ever so ephemeral emotion for centuries.” “Victor Hugo states “Love is a portion of the soul itself.” St. Augustine describes it as “Love is the beauty of the soul.” Musicians like The Sweet say “Love is like oxygen.” (Weiss, 452 ) Romantic love has …show more content…
They were in love up to seventeen months. The study had them view pictures of people they would recognize. They came to this conclusion, “intense romantic love is associated with activation of dopamine-releasing regions in the brain.” (Weiss 453) Like the striatum which is the pleasure center of the brain. The dopamine in the brain helps display various feelings. Therefore triggering the part of the brain that displays motivation. Hence the reason people think its a goal oriented state. The insula part of the brain “gives value” to all pleasurable activities. The research study concluded that this love is in essence a “goal-oriented motivation state rather than a specific emotion.” (Weiss 453) Everyone knows love exists and it can be measured and analyzed. Love is a real thing. The concept of sexual desire and romantic love are intertwinded. These researchers analyzed the twenty seperate Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scans trials of subjects engaged on tasks. The trial subjects engaged in looking at porn, and photos of significant others. Photos of their acquaintances non pornagraphic. Researchers were able to show the subjects how these concepts and the brain interacted. Romantic love and not porn use also activates the insula. This idea is due to the fact that you can feel love. Like the saying goes you can 't define love there is no clear definition. It is more than just a subjective feeling about something. Simply because it has a physical kinetic energy component. Emotions are like energy stirred up. So someone could have an emotional attachment or sexual connection with another person and say they are “in love.” Which to go along with this idea is why you get a feeling of an emotional high when you are in love which is a result from both emotional attachments and sexual connections. As well as the idea that true love involves a emotional connection. Love is considered one of the many emotions when its stronger. That one would feel directly in the body.
