A Process to Understand and Re-Form Myself as a Leader Most people will, at some point, work under another person’s leadership. Such leaders are continuously rated high or low by their employees and colleagues. Some leaders will rise above the expectations placed upon them while others will not–they will be challenging to work with. What makes a leader good or bad? Where do I stand as a leader? To help answer this second question in particular, I completed four assessments that address two important components of good leadership: a self-awareness and self-care. The first three tests, which were the Leadership Styles Assessment, DISC personality testing, and Jung Typology, all aimed to increase self-awareness. The fourth test, the Vitality Compass, indicates areas that need improvement in terms of self-care. The assessment results have …show more content…
As a participative leader, I am vulnerable when my team has poor knowledge or when a quick response is required for the task at hand. While working with others, my behavior is predominantly supportive, but I also tend to exercise some caution and sometimes take a dominant approach. A lack of influential traits indicates I could struggle to motivate or excite those I lead. Slow pace, fear of conflict, and a lack of expressiveness are the areas I need to improve on due to my tendency toward supportive behavior. The Humanetrics Jung Typology Test provided me with some insight on how my mental setting influences my personality. I can be inflexible, judgmental, and inexpressive as an ISTJ. In terms of the way I am leading my life, the vitality assessment results indicate that I have found a good balance in maintaining health and physical fitness. My emotional, spiritual, and mental health needs are correctly and clearly highlighted. These combined assessment results made me aware of areas for personal
