Throughout the novel "Lord of the Flies" two capable leaders battled for control of the tribe and this led to many events that influenced the strength of the group. Two of the older kids Ralph and Jack at the beginning of this novel both clearly wanted the opportunity to be the leader of the group of boys. And it became clear that Ralph wanted to survive and be rescued and so did jack but further into the book his focus shifted to hunting and having fun while Ralph kept his priorities straight by establishing rules, gathering food and water, and building shelters. William Golding made it clear to the leader that Ralph is supposed to be the good leader unlike Jack who just wants to hunt and have fun. So
