I have built strong professional relationships with many of my colleagues, administrators, and students, and feel it has built trust and respect, which help achieve goals and solve disagreements in a healthy manner. I have always enjoyed a healthy debate, and instructional leaders need the skill of being able to ask the tough questions, but be prepared and comfortable with varying opinions on such subjects. I have a very open mind when it comes to others’ opinions because I realize everyone’s values and beliefs are individual and make them unique. There are times I enjoy being the “devil’s advocate” which gives an opposite stance to a topic so the parties involved are forced to think about why they truly believe in their position. This creates critical and diverse thoughts, which open new conversations and builds awareness of others’ ideologies. With the rise of technology in schools, communication on an organizational standpoint has become very convenient. Emails, Google Docs, and social media sites are all beneficial tools to communicate with colleagues. As a music educator, I need to gain more experience in the standards and assessments of other content areas. I feel very comfortable with ideas for instructional strategies and classroom management, but will need to prepare for each colleague’s subject area to assist in assessment and content standard resources. Exploring professional literature resources and reviewing the Iowa Core can enhance this knowledge. A major strength in this category is my ability to adjust instruction during a class period. As a music instructor, my instruction is adjusted multiple times daily. If an ensemble is not grasping a certain skill, I may need to change the way I am teaching so all students can achieve the desired
