People and tourist: The first symbol I chose for the subject of dolphins is people. This symbol is very important because everything that happens to a captive dolphin was from people. People wanted entertainment from these marine mammals, which is why in Taiji, Japan they capture these dolphins to ship them to different parts of the world. Sea World is a major industry that is growing from the demands and interest people wanted to see from dolphins. But people doesn’t know that they are stressing the dolphin from stripping them away from their habitat. It is pure torture for them hosting a show every day. Knife is another huge symbol in this documentary because that is one of the fishermen method of killing dolphins. Knife symbolizes death. The place dolphins die is at the cove which also symbolizes death. In the documentary it had stated about 150,000 dolphins per year would die from the cove. The end results are sheets of blood in the water and dolphin parts. Another method of killing a dolphin are spears thrusted at a dolphin back or to“reduce the amount of blood spilled into the water and into the sight of the world, the hunters use a killing technique known as “pithing.” A metal rod is hammered into the spinal cord of the dolphins, causing paralysis” (SeaShepherd). The cove symbol can also represent a war zone (Dolphin vs fishermen).but in this case the dolphins has not weapons to fight for their life. For O’Barry a knife symbolizes pain, he has a connection with these marine mammals and can sense their pain. It breaks his heart see all these dolphins being slaughtered in front of his eyes to not being to help them in …show more content…
To a dolphin’s point of view, the symbol of fishermen would be death. The reason I chose that for a dolphin is because these fishermen are killing a dolphin’s family in front of their eyes. “It has been documented that some dolphins and small whales have taken more than thirty minutes to die.”(SeaShepherd) These dolphins are swimming with blood of theirs and their family. It is a nightmare for a dolphin to witness this it would always be engraved in their memory till they take their last

For example, the main goal of this film was to make the viewer feel sorry for all the dolphins and make them want to put an end to it. This is due to the usage of pathos. What if pathos was not used in this film? The same goes for the close up on Richard’s face while talking about the death of Kathy.…
