Modern Day Public Lynching’s VS. Horror Movies
Back in the day, as in the old western days, people were punished by being publicly hung. Now, the punishment is a needle to the arm, but that is not meant for a big audience, although horror movies are. The hanging and the films created many of the same concepts and caused many different reactions in people’s eyes. It gives someone satisfaction, as well as, reality checks when a person thinks of the thrill-seeking viewings, the cringing scenes, the dark sense of humor and the reality that a human being with the ability to commit these actions.
The thing people refer to as thrill is something that some crave deeply and it provides pleasure to the brain. It changes throughout time for most people. King explains in his essay Why We Crave Horror Movies, how a younger audience enjoys trying to show that they aren’t afraid and how they have the guts to go on with such fear striking things. Once these people get older, it is not so satisfying once they become more mature in their mind and have different priorities in life (562). Therefore, there are humans more morbid than others, just in many ways. There are people with a goody two shoes type of personality that think these types of events are completely horrid and some that find it as satisfaction. Some just deny it all together to manipulate their minds into thinking these kinds of things do not happen to good people. The people that deny the truth are the ones who seem equally as mental as the next patient. The fact that people just simply laugh at peoples shows
