With a population of 1.3 billion people, India is coming dangerously close to a national tipping point environmentally, socially, and economically. Subsequently, the citizens of this highly populated nation are being left hungry, insufficiently educated, and without proper health care. Wealth and a lack of schooling are recognized as factors that are directly correlated to the ever-growing population of the country. Furthermore, a disproportionate distribution of resources and opportunities creates a vicious cycle that is responsible for promoting larger families and shows no signs of letting up in the near future. Unfortunately, Indians have limited access to contraceptives and some are not even aware of the existence of others. In this case, female illiteracy is one of the key factors in the lack of contraception usage. It is stated that only 48% of Indian women have knowledge on or use any of the various birth control methods. With this in mind, using protection during intercourse is vital when trying to control population numbers, and without the opportunity for Indians to have access to them, we will continue to see an explosion in the birth rates. In addition, education is also crucial in regards to employment. When Indians are ineligible to go to school or are forced to drop out, they will enter the cycle of poverty. The moment a child withdraws from school, they will no longer be eligible to acquire the sufficient amount of education that is required to get them a better job in the future. Consequently, the children are then forced to work labor-intensive jobs for meagre payouts, instead of having a better career in their field of study. This will result in higher population numbers due to the fact that more children will need to be produced in order to adequately support the family. The population will continue to flourish in India if the resources to prevent its growth, and a greater effort to keep individuals in school are not enforced or made readily
