This statement is right to a certain point as some celebs do raise awareness on some certain issues and promote charity event and even sometimes even build charitable associations, but it most of the time, they do this for more recognition and fame. Plain and simple. Celeb can really bring the best in us and the worst in us. As mentioned before obsession with celeb(s) can lead to “celebrity worship syndrome”. People have been reported on bleeding themselves, cutting their hair or worse attempting to commit suicide because of their Favorite Celeb did something they didn’t approve of. Recent the famous boy band “One Direction” came under the spotlight when one of their member decided to leave the band for his own reason. This caused turmoil in the internet as million voiced their outrage and confusion on why it happened. The media eat it up as it was the headline news for tabloids, news station and social media. During this time people were harming themselves and rumors of suicide went round. This culture inspire people to do themselves harm. According to British researcher Satoshi Kanazawa, of the London school of Economic and science, “the human brain was not designed to handle the constant bombardment of celebrity based stimuli and that we will lose touch with our friends and family as a result” (Celebrity Culture pg. 247). This prove that this culture in a way is killing us.
