He comes for the time where brand loyalty was a big thing, or in other words no matter how bad the car got (which it got pretty bad) he would never stop being a Ford customer, regardless of circumstance. He saw himself thought the ideals of the brand, he wanted his family to be like the brand, tough, sturdy and strong. Though the very company owners were not like that he still believed it, the reason people do this is that instead of finding out who they truly are they associate their very being with a product or brand. Much like in “The Grapes of wrath” chapter 5 where the man on the tractor is proud of his power, he is able to mow down hundreds of acres of land in an afternoon. The most powerful man of the ancient world who had the most exotic comforts the world could provide was a stoic, who in several occasions fasted and lived something of a simple life. Though Ii don’t agree with several of their philosophies there are some valuable points. For example every morning look at your most prized possession, in my case it is my Citizen Watch, look at how simple it really is, look at the pieces of metal welded together or the nuts and bolts. When you realize that what you own is so simple and fragile, you will get the sense that you must be more than this simple object. You must be more than the tractor, or a number in your bank account. In order to be happy with a few pennies or a million dollars we must cultivate a strong mindset., Hhow many artists or athletes enjoy doing their craft only to become famous then sue and whine about how they are getting 5 million dollars less compared to last year?. At that point they are defined by their stature, they become a sort of king in theirre eyes only to forget that as the philosopher Montaigne said “Even on the highests throne in the world, we still sit upon our asses”.
