Jane Austen uses the literary technique of conflict in her writing in order to show the different emotions of each character, and conflicts also help Austen portray human emotions and relate them to the values and morals of 19th century England. For instance, Pride and Prejudice use conflict to portray human emotions and the struggles associated with seeking marriage. In addition, foreshadowing is used in the personality and speech of characters, and foreshadowing serves as a means to reveal the themes of the novel to the reader.
