One of Gordon’s functional health patterns that is relevant to J.B. is health management pattern (Blais, 2014). J.B. fits this health pattern because he is always trying to improve or maintain optimal quality of life. For example, he seeks information to promote optimal nutrition. He is asking questions and exploring how he could improve his diet to be healthier. During his visit to the doctor’s office, he is actively asking questions to improve his weakness; such as, types of exercise’s to regain his strength.

Patient will read a pamphlet about exercises to improve strength in elderly given on June 20, 2016 by 2pm at doctor’s office. This outcome is appropriate for J.B. because he stated that his goal is to regain his strength and be able to do that things he loves. By reading this pamphlet, it will enhance his knowledge on exercises that will help him regain his strength, but won’t hurt him due to his age. I think that if a patient is wanting to gain more knowledge on exercise’s, then nurse should supply them with pamphlets to help them achieve that goal.
2C. Assess J.B.’s knowledge on pamphlet. Patient will be able to discuss one exercise to improve his strength that is appropriate for his age (4pm on June 20, 2016). By asking the patient to talk about an exercise in the pamphlet, we are ensuring that he read the material and fully understands what need to be done. Also, by asking them about the pamphlet, it will give them a chance to bring up any concerns they may have on the exercise.
