Afton Dahl expresses her point of view of abortion by firmly stating that she “does not believe in abortion under any circumstances, including rape” (Dahl). What does this make rape? Okay? This is not even a decent claim. Who in their right mind would not think about abortion after getting molested? Nobody, because people who get violated are not in their right mindset. If they have thoughts about it, there is no stopping them whether abortion will stay legal or become illegal in the future. Rape can seriously damage a person psychologically. If a woman got raped but was not eligible to get an abortion, who is to keep her from having or not having the baby? Although, if she does have the child, chances are that she will have a harder time taking care of it due to the fact that she feels guilty even though it was not her fault to begin with. Dahl further provides a reason to defend her belief by attributing her thought that “it 's murder to kill someone with a heartbeat” (Dahl). It is not murder if it is considered legal. If it were murder, thousands and thousands of beings would be in prison right now. Plus, the fetus may have developed a heartbeat, but it is still not born as of yet. Therefore, it is certainly not an act of murder. Saying that making a heartbreaking choice is murder really is not the best way to get anywhere with this argument. It is essentially like guilt tripping the opposing side into believing that they have committed a crime by supporting legal decisions. Another speech student at Red Wing High School who opposes abortion, expresses her opinion: “It 's more about the baby 's rights than the woman 's rights” (Hoffbeck). Does this mean that the baby has more rights just because it is a child? This is not right. The fact is that the baby is not born yet. It does not have any
