Although it proved to be very difficult, the Patient perseveres in overcoming the various tactics that Screwtape intends to bring the Patient down. Edward D. throughout this novel you can see the internal struggle of the Patient. In every instance of Screwtape tempting the Patient, the internal struggle is revealed in the decision the Patient has to make concerning right and wrong. Within the novel, The Screwtape Letters, C.S. Lewis portrays the many trials and tribulations as discussed; spiritual pride, pleasure and distraction. C.S. Lewis attempts to show the everyman the devil’s, or in this case, Screwtape’s tactics to bring humans off of God’s path.

Lewis is trying to enlighten Christians, to be aware of fleshly desires and what the consequences of these actions result in, and what causes them.
