Thousands of people from over Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone have come to be treated for Ebola.Some against their will have come to get treated with experimental vaccines. This dreaded disease is starting to dial down after US intervention. The intervention has produced over fifteen hospitals with over one thousand beds. Over the past year, Ebola has been making headlines due to the toll it has taken over the West African population and over those that have come in close contact with Ebola victims.Over nine thousand people have died out of the 23,000 infected. As a responsible world citizen, the US has helped Africa by sending hundreds of troops to Africa. They were sent to build dozens of hospitals and train people to take care of the patients and contain the deadly virus. "Today, around 1,500 of them are already back to their duty stations and nearly all will return by April 30. All have or will undergo established controlled monitoring procedures." pronounced President Obama during a presidential press after the ten months the personal spent in West Africa(Ellis). The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention sent in mobile labs so that they can find suspected Ebola patients in a matter of hours. The U.S. has spent over One billion dollars , more than any other donors(Eilperin). Many people from different countries have come together to help find a cure. This is a deadly infection that has killed thousands of people and it has the range to kill more unless it is fought with the effort of everyone. The world has given enough resources to curb the spread of the virus and now it is the responsibility of local authorities and trained professionals to put the resources to proper use for the immediate and the long term. The governments of West African nations are responsible for the welfare of their own citizens. Having donated billions of dollars to help the affected regions, the US government should now channel its resources to take care of its own citizens. Besides being unfamiliar with local norms, US workers may not be able to help the victims properly. It would be better for local workers to help them.
