The research was to identify why rates of adult depression had increased in recent generations. This study was particularly important since the household dynamics have changed significantly in recent years. There are many households with only one parent and it is more common to have the same sex parents. Proactive mental health care can prevent more serious issues than if it was left untreated. If children are identified with an issue that may cause them to suffer a behavioral and psychological disturbance in adulthood, regular therapy sessions or other forms of interventions may, in fact, help the mental health issue from even being a problem. The obvious long-term effects of this treatment preventing mental health issues from being passed down to the next generation as well as the monetary savings from the additional healthcare that would be needed if any of these issues resulted in compounded health problems. By seeking professional help for an issue that an individual may potentially have, can lead to a better quality of life and possibly living a longer
