At home, men are household. In the house, the man is the decision maker and the wife executes. In Togo, girls are raised to believe that they cannot do the same things as boys at a very young age. For example, in Togo, girls are taught that they are only good for marriage. They have to stay home, give birth, and take care of the house even when they come back from work. The man whose responsibility is to give financial support to the family, sometimes does not participated in house care because they think that it’s the woman’s job. The woman has to do bring her income through activities such as selling products in the market or creating a micro-enterprise that can generate money to support her children. Most Togolese would rather have mistresses and cheat than get a second wife. When women try to express themselves at home, they become victim of violence by their husbands. For example, Moussa Soumahoro on March 9, 2015, during the forum of Berkley on Gender issues focuses on the mistreatments that women are victims of in the world, especially in Africa. This situation makes women uncomfortable and is called domestic violence. That is not fair to women and it should be punished by the law. The paradox is that sometime, it seems like justice does not exist because men who commit these violence are not punish. The world needs to protect women’s goals and promote gender equality, women’s integration, empowerment, and improvement. In fact, Togolese should send and educate more women to school like men. They need to be educate to improve themselves, because education is the key to avoid inequality between men and women.
