Forests are considered a vital element for our survival as part of the living organisms. The reason why they are very necessary is because as living organisms, we need clean air to breathe, and forests, or to be more specific trees function in a way like filters to the air. The way they work in a very simplified way is that they attract very harmful pollutants such as nitrogen oxides, ammonia, and ozone along with dust and many other pollutants that can be harmful to us as humans. Another thing that trees are very well known for is clearing the air off carbon dioxide and keeping it in balance, which is also a very dangerous greenhouse gas that is rapidly increasing due to our emissions (Furtado). This greenhouse gas is also one of the main causes for global warming, which shows that trees have a very important role in fighting global warming. On the other hand, with the tree’s role in clearing the air off the harmful carbon dioxide, we are given oxygen in return. According to Think Global Green, 20% of the oxygen we breathe comes from the Amazonian rainforest. This is not a small percentage to underestimate, especially with the fact that the percentages of greenhouse gasses are on the rise. In addition, forests also have a huge role in cooling the air while the earth’s …show more content…
They are an important element for our survival, not just as humans but as living beings on this planet. It is true that we can have many benefits from them, including the things that make us cut them down, but we still need to moderate this usage as much as possible to ensure the survival of our forests on this planet. Though I personally don’t think it’s something that is very hard to do, especially with the fact that we can all reach information very easily and it’s not really hard for us to understand the consequences with most people understanding the importance of the forests. This understanding was evident in the survey I did with 100% of the participants acknowledging the forests importance with all of them willing to take action against deforestation as well. So, what is it that’s really stopping us? According to the same survey I made, 80% of the participants don’t know any local organizations responsible for planting trees that they can support. This is sad knowing that organizations can easily reach people nowadays with social media and advertisements. But I believe that even though many didn’t know about any specific organizations, there is still room for volunteering and being part of programs that encourage taking care of our environment. Such as Loyac where they help volunteers serve the community and the environment. In the
