There are 3,142 counties or county equivalents in the U.S. When looking at regional county growth rates from 2015 through 2016, counties in western and southern states have generally increased in population while population growth in counties in the Midwest and Northeast have remained steady or declined. According to the U.S. Census Bureau as of July 2016, five of the top ten fastest growing counties in America are in Texas and Utah. Real estate is one of the key reasons why people decide to live in an area.

Hays County is south of Austin, and it is part of the Austin metropolitan statistical area. The county has a population of around 205,000 people, and the median home list price is $235,000. According to RealtyTrac, there are currently 243 homes for sale and 154 homes have sold in recent weeks, and there is strong real estate investment activity in the county.

Wasatch County, Utah is fifth on the list with a population growth rate of 4.67%. Wasatch County is located southeast of Salt Lake City and east of Provo. The population of Wasatch County is around 30,500 people, and the median home list price is $399,000. RealtyTrac shows 53 homes for sale in the county, and 19 homes have sold in recent weeks.

As of July 2016, Williamson County, Texas was not on the top ten list of the fastest growing counties in America. Williamson County is located north of Austin, and it has a population of just under 530,000 people. The median home price in the county is $232,500, there are 461 homes for sale, and 674 homes have recently sold, and there is strong real estate investment activity in this county as well.
