How Rock Salt Affect A Grass Cube's Growth Rate

The purpose of this experiment was to see how rock salt affected a grass cube’s growth rate when it was added to water that was given to the grass. In our procedure we would dissolve the rock salt with water in a beaker and give it to the grass using a liquid dropper. Our dependent variable was the grass height and our independent variable was the rock salt. We had constants, such as the water container the grass was left in and where all the grass cubes were placed after the procedure. We also had a control group that didn’t receive any additional items, just water. Every lab day we would measure the grass height of the experimental and control group. Our hypothesis was if rock salt is added to the grass, then the grass height will decrease, because salt draws moisture out of biotic material.

After the first experimental day our grass was 8.25 cm and the control group was at 7 cm. This shows how the rock salt helped increase the grass growth rate at first. However, on the second day our grass was at 7 cm and the control group was

This could have been the reason the grass height declined more on certain days and less on others. To fix this issue we could have measured a specific amount of rock salt to give on each lab day to insure results are more accurate. Another issue could have been that the beaker with rock salt may not have diluted the water the same amount each day. This would cause different results and not give us an accurate understanding of our grass cubes growth rate. To fix this we should have let the rock salt dissolve in the water for a specific amount of time each day to make sure it diluted it the same as it day every day. In the future I would like to understand why the rock salt had no negative effect on the grass height on the first day. Also I would like to more in depth on how the rock salt affected it the way it did instead of just
