How Does Suskind Build Suspense In Perfume

Patrick Susskind and Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s are both great authors, whose writing give a significant impact on the readers. The techniques the two use leave the readers speechless for how the writing flows outstandingly. In Addition, Susskind and Marquez, their novels are suspenseful capturing the reader’s attention and interest. Patrick Suskinds novel Perfume, Set in eighteenth-century France, Suskind tells the story of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, who is a physically and emotionally abused orphan. Jean-Baptiste’s supernatural sense of smell guides him in his lack of odor. Suskind creates an impact on the readers when the lack of smell that Jean-Baptiste has an impact on himself. Later, Jean-Baptiste gains an obsessing over scent which lead to him killing women to earn the scent. The impact this leaves on the reader is how Suskind delivers the information, also how he addresses it. Marquez in his novel uses the technique of suspense to capture the readers which lead them on. Chronicle of a death foretold is based around the death of Santiago and uproar between it. Marquez impacts the reader with his writing by the style of order he uses. Within the novel, many views of the death are shown before the death itself, the falling action precedes the climax of the death at the end of the novel. With that being said, the impact the author leaves after the reading is the satisfaction of knowing. Santiago’s death was the begging and the end in the novel.
