Competition for jobs led to racial issues and riots, there were over twenty in 1919. Once the war ended and soldiers started coming home the problems just got worse. There was a recession due to the other countries no longer needing all their supplies from the U.S. During the war labor unions had increased and there were many strikes during what was called the Red Summer. This gave into fears of communism and was a time of anti-radical hysteria and fear. These times of uncertainty made an easier opportunity for the appearance of hate groups like the Klu Klux Klan.
At the close of the war Germany had not actually been invaded so their army marched home saying they were undefeated. The German government, including Hitler, were angry and were spreading lies about being stabbed in the back by traitors at home, be it Jews, Socialists, or Liberals. This culture would lead us all into another world war. In the end the war was won but the peace was lost and another tragedy of great magnitude would be seen on the horizon much too soon.
