Matt is a little boy who is different than you might think. In the book, “The House of the Scorpion”, by Nancy Farmer, Matt is curious. In this book, Matt is a clone of man named El Patron. Matt is a little boy/ clone who is locked up his whole life but when he moves into the big house with his ruler, El Patron, he tries to find out where he really belongs. At the end, El Patron dies and Matt gets the chance to take over. Matt is curious because he wondered what was wrong with him after Rosa didn’t treat him kindly, about the eejits working in the field, and after seeing MacGregors clone wondering if he would be like that one day. Matt was curious because he didn’t know why Rosa didn’t treat him kindly. According to the story, “Rosa hurried down the steps and dumped Matt roughly onto the lawn. Without a word, she turned and fled back to the house”(Farmer 24). This shows the reader that Rosa …show more content…
According to the story, “Why are they doing that?... Do they ever get tired?... Can’t we - Can’t we help him?... What about the doctor?”, are all of the curiosities Matt had flowing through his mind (Farmer 77). This shows the reader that Matt was very curious about his surrounding. He didn’t know what the eejits were and all about them since this is new to him. He was just wondering why they were out there instead of working at the big house or inside on such a hot day and why were they any different than the workers and servants at the house. Also when Matt was riding through the fields on the hot day, he saw a dead body of an eejit. The eejit had died because of the heat. Matt’s curious questions were, “Can’t we - Can’t we help him?... What about the doctor?” and those were from the curiosities (Farmer 77).Matt was curious because he’d never seen or been in the surroundings he's in and because he was wondering why the eejits were
